|
Survey period: 11 June – 28 July 2020 |
Sampling and statistical methodology:
Use of the National Population Register (Registre National des Personnes Physiques – RNPP). The RNPP is a personal register covering the whole resident population of Luxembourg, no matter the age or the nationality. A probability sampling design was used, with 1 sampling stage; sampling method at the first stage simple random sampling. The sample unit at the first stage are the individuals.
|
Reference period: Last three months before the interview (or 12 months if specified in the model questionnaire). |
|
Collection method: The participation was voluntary and unpaid. Stand-alone survey. |
|
Population covered: 16-74.

Survey period: 11/4/2012 – 9/5/2012 |
Sampling and statistical methodology: It is worked with RDD (random digital dialling) by using computer generated national phone numbers. There are a number of phone numbers randomly chosen to be called. In order to reach representative results, a quota system for the individuals to be interviewed is applied. Households without fixed phone line and households only using mobile phones were not called.
Stratification: The national sample is constructed in 2 stages: 1rst level: selection of households by RDD; 2nd level: selection of respondent in the household; 1 individual per household is selected. Quota sampling: sex by age, region, nationality and professional activity. In other words: there is a stratification on age (16-18 years, 19-24 years, 25-34 years, 35-49 years, 50-64 years and 65-74 years), sex by age (with the same age categories), sex (male, female), region (city, centre, south, north (including west), east), nationality (Luxembourgish, Portuguese, other) and professional activity (active, not active). For the individuals a weighting procedure for these quota variables is applied after the fieldwork. For the households a weighting procedure for “household composition” is applied after the fieldwork. The reference figures are taken from STATEC. The respondents can answer in three different languages (Luxembourgish, French or English). |

Main methodological differences compared to previous survey(s): In the previous years the survey was carried out as a face-to-face survey, where the sampling procedure had been different from the actual one. The research institute, that had carried out the survey in the last years is a CRP (Centre de recherche publique) run under the authority of the government, which means that the sampling procedure (and the registration of the no-responses) could be done differently, because a state-run institute has data available, that are not available to private research institutes for data-protection reasons. This year the survey was carried out as a CATI-survey. This CATI-survey has the advantage as far as the sample is concerned, that it uses pure random for all households in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg. In the last years, only citizens covered by the social security system were included in the survey. That means that the families working for the EU or for other international institutions were excluded. This year, there are nearly no background data concerning the no-responses (on the unit level) available. The telephone interviews were conducted until the quotas were sufficiently fulfilled (and only totally answered interviews were counted as “successful”). No-responses on the item level can only occur, if in the questionnaire a no-response item had been included. Further, a second (non-EUROSTAT) survey concerning the ICT usage in private households had to be included in the interviews. |
