OBERFRANKEN - Employment
Between 1995 and 2002, employment in Upper Franconia declined (-2%) and in 2002 there were 535 100 persons employed. In the same year there were 195 700 jobs in the industry sector, 14% fewer than in 1995. In the services sector 23 800 new jobs were created between 1995 and 2002 to reach 318 700 in 2002. Industry accounted for 37% of those in employment in 2002, and the services for 60%. With 20 800 workers in 2002, agriculture represented 4% of employment in the Regierungsbezirk, one of the highest figures in Bavaria. In 2001 the unemployment rate was the highest in Bavaria at 6.4%. Long-term unemployment affected 39% of the unemployed.
