FYNS - Geography and history
The county of Funen is a small island kingdom situated in the heart of Denmark. The main island Funen is Denmark's second largest island and together with some 90 other large and small islands they constitute Funen County. Only 25 of these islands are inhabited.
Funen is connected to the rest of Denmark by bridges and a tunnel. However, most of the transport between Funen and many of the small islands in the archipelago must be made by ferry.
Funen covers an area of 3 485 km2, and has 1 130 km in littoral. It represents 8.1% of the total area of Denmark and it comprises 32 municipalities.
