FLEVOLAND - Education, health and culture
Flevoland has the following universities/schools: University of Amsterdam (Almere), Institute for Information Engineering (PABO), Higher vocational agricultural school (Dronten).
In the year 2000, there were 63 428 pupils and students enrolled in the educational system in the province. Of these, 31 862 were at primary level, 20 608 at secondary level and 884 at tertiary level.
There are three hospitals in the province, offering the whole range of medical services.
There were 515 physicians and doctors in 2001, with a rate of 1.6 per thousand inhabitants (in 2000). The number of nursing staff was 3 831 in 2001, whereas the number of hospital beds per thousand inhabitants in 2000 was 1.8.
Amongst the main attractions to visit in Flevoland are Batavia (rebuilt ship from 17 century), Poldermuseum and the Dutch Insitute for ship archeology (NISA).
