Overview

SDSE is a Statistics Austria system.
SDSE: System zur Durchführung statistischer Erhebungen (system for carrying out statistical surveys) is made of a core element which is the electronic questionnaire management system. This system can be used for different (economic as well as non-economic) surveys by specifying all survey-specific information, including questionnaires and validity checks, in XML parameter files. Respondents and intermediaries (third party declarants) such as accountant firms will get this software free of charge to fill in the questionnaires or to import data from their own EDP-systems, to manage the response data and to send the encrypted data in an XML format via e-mail, FTP or mailbox to Statistics Austria. The program is planned to be used by Statistics Austria as well, so that our expert statisticians can view, check and edit incoming data with the same tool that the respondents are using.

The SDSE will be first used in January 2001 for the monthly survey short term statistics.

Platforms

The system will run on the 32 bit Windows platform (Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4, Windows 2000).

Type of users

Respondents and intermediaries (third party declarants) such as accountant firms will get SDSE to fill in the questionnaires.

Distribution of the package

The SDSE will be first used in January 2001 for the monthly survey short term statistics with almost 20 000 respondents.

Availability of the software

Together with the paper questionnaires, every respondent will receive free of charge a CD-ROM (containing the "electronic questionnaire management system", two classification components for PRODCOM and NACE, structure data defining the survey and its questionnaires, and encrypted respondent-specific initialisation data) and a code which is necessary to access the initialisation data.
