The meeting will start at 10.00 am on 26 October. Lunch breaks will be at 12.30 to 14.15 on both days. A coffee / tea break of 20 minutes will be made during the morning and afternoon sessions on each day to allow participants to discuss issues bi-laterally.

4. Review of action list

The "list of actions and meeting dates" from the STNE WG meeting n°8 was disseminated by Eurostat on 24 ^th April 1998. Participants will be asked to report, where appropriate, on the status of actions.

5. Reports on funding programmes

5.1 IDA report

The Commission’s IDA Team from DGIII will report on the status of the Commission’s proposals for IDA II.

5.2 5 ^th R&D

The Commission will report on the status of the 5 ^th R&D Framework Programme.

6. Report on the current situation and specific plans

Note: (supporting information STNE/98/9/006) a CD-ROM entitled Information for Local Co-ordinators will be disseminated at the meeting to support items 6.1, 6.2 & 6.3.

6.1 TESTA

Presentation and discussion on progress being made by TESTA, with reference to methods of access being adopted, the cost and its association with the IRC.

6.2 Statel

Presentation, discussion and feedback on HUB and associated services.

6.3 EDIFLOW and Stadium

Presentation and discussion on: the results of the EDIFLOW inventory project, with its associated database; progress made in the EDIFLOW project and with Stadium, and; future plans.

6.4 European Reference Environment and metadata service

Presentation and discussion on the work being performed under the guidance of the Metadata Task Force, followed a demonstration of the DSIS metadata service prototype.

6.5 DSIS-IRC

A report on the latest developments in the DSIS-IRC. Participants will be invited to express their opinion on the functionality and service provided by version 2.

6.6 EEG6 activities

Presentation and discussion on the activities of EEG6, in particular the results of a meeting in Rome and their work relating to XML and CORBA.

7. Strategy for information and communications technology in Official Statistics

7.1 Report to the Statistical Programme Committee (SPC)

Presentation and discussion on the strategy formulated by Eurostat and which will be presented for endorsement to the SPC’s meeting in November 1998.

7.2 Future work programme

Presentation and discussion on the tasks to be performed, and the planned procurements, to implement the strategy.

8. Summary of key issues, agreements, actions and meetings

The Chairman will summarise the key issues agreed during the meeting. A list of actions will be disseminated within 10 working days after the meeting.
