STNE WG Terms of Reference

In accordance with SPC 94/14/2, the STNE WG has responsibility for:

  1. coordinating the development of information services needed for building up cooperation between competent national authorities involved in the statistical process, including office automation services;
  2. recommending and implementing proposals on areas relating to information technology, telematic networks, EDI, new technologies and related standardisation issues;
  3. taking into account, when drafting and implementing DSIS, the recommendations and requirements of authorities on related issues, such as legal and management matters, statistical harmonisation, data security and confidentiality and user interfaces;
  4. within its areas of competence, coordinating with other committees, working groups and Task Forces which come under the auspices of the SPC;
  5. drawing up a work programme to cover the following two years, setting out suggested priorities for the launching of initiatives;
  6. specifying requirements and defining priorities to the relevant standards bodies;
  7. designing or organising the corresponding support activities (e.g. documentation, back-up, training, promotion, etc.) for members of the competent national authorities;
  8. promoting its activities to other partners of statistical authorities (administrations, economic operators, users, software developers, computer manufacturers, etc.) or other for a (committees, conferences, user groups, etc.).

The STNE WG will be responsible for ensuring that the most suitable management practices and technical solutions for information systems are selected, and that they are implemented correctly during DSIS development.
