In order to improve the comprehensibility and accessibility of official data, a few Java applets based on Eurostat data have been developed within the framework of a German multimedia project "New Statistics". These tools aim at communicating the messages behind the data sets by means of self-explaining and user-controlled graphs to the non-professional user. For background information click here (CES 2006) or here (ICOTS 2006).
The following interactive Java applets are actually available:
Unemployment in Europe (1993 - 2004) (English) NEW
Gross earnings in Europe 2002 (English) Now updated
Gross earnings in Germany 2001 (German)
Labour costs in the EU Candidate Countries for the year 2000 (trilingual)

(for changing the view on the data), "Notes" (for accessing methodological
comments), "Help" (for getting hints for optimal use) or "Language"
(for switching from English to French or German).
