(Population Structure in Europe 2001)
What is to be seen?

This applet visualizes the relative size of different age groups for the EU member states, the EU candidate countries (with the exception of Turkey) and four EFTA countries. The visualization is carried out by means of bar charts. The data refer to then year 2001.

How to use this interactive component?

Choose from the menu either the set of all EU member states or a country set containing the EU candidate and the EFTA states. Choose then one of the four specified age classes. You will get bar charts visualizing the relative size of this age class for the selected country set. The numerical values defining the length of the bar charts are displayed in tabular form.

Via "View" it is also possible to visualize the size of all four age classes, i. e., the complete population structure, but now for only two countries. Again, the numerical values are displayed in tabular form.

View: Enables the user to choose between either comparison of one age group for a larger set of countries (set of all EU member states or set of EU candidate and EFTA states) or comparison of the whole population structure for two self-selected countries within one of the tow sets.

Zoom: Generates a second window which may be arbitrarily enlarged, compressed or stretched.

Notation: Explains the concept of a bar chart and presents abbreviations for the countries used in this applet. You may print out the notes by using the right-hand mouse button or the print functionality of the Windows navigation frame.
