Help (Population in Europe 2002) |
What is to be seen? |
This applet visualizes the population size and three population change rates of the EU member states, the EU candidate countries (with the exception of Turkey) and four EFTA countries. The change rates are the live births, deaths and net migration per 1000 inhabitants. The visualization is carried out by means of bar charts. The data refer to end of 2002. |
How to use this interactive component? |
Choose from the menu either the set of all EU member states or a country set containing the EU candidate and the EFTA states. Choose then one of the four key figures "population" (in millions inhabitants), "live births", "deaths" and "net migration" (the three last mentioned change rates refer to 1000 inhabitants). You will get bar charts visualizing the size of the selected key figure for the chosen country set. The numerical values defining the length of the bar charts are displayed in tabular form. |
Via "View" it is also possible to visualize the size of the three change rates simultaneously, but now for only two countries. Again, the numerical values are displayed in tabular form. |
View: Enables the user to choose between either comparison of one of the key figures listed above for a larger set of countries (EU member states or EU candidate and EFTA states) or comparison of the three population change rates for two self-selected countries. |
Zoom: Generates a second window which may be arbitrarily enlarged, compressed or stretched. |
Notation: Explains the concept of a bar chart and presents abbreviations for the countries used in this applet. You may print out the notes by using the right-hand mouse button or the print functionality of the Windows navigation frame. |
