Hourly labour costs in the Member States |

Table 1 shows hourly labour costs for the year 2000 in 14 of the 15 Member States of the European Union, disaggregated by economic acitivities. The sections C - F of NACE Rev. 1 relate to "Industry" and G - K to "Services". |

The row "EU" displays EU averages for the economic activities. The sign ":" denotes missing values. The table shows, on the one hand, that the level of labour costs varied considerably between countries. For the aggregate "Industry and Services" (C - K), the average hourly costs ranged from 8.13 Euro (Portugal) to 28.56 Euro (Sweden). On the other hand, the table also shows marked differences between different economic activities within a country. In Portugal, for example, the lowest hourly costs were observed in section H (hotels and restaurants, 5.72 Euro), the highest in section J (financial intermediation, 19.01 Euro). |
