Large earnings gap between EU-15 and the NMS also for monthly and annual earnings

It is of interest to investigate whether the main findings related to hourly earnings also apply to monthly and annual earnings. Table 2 displays gross hourly, monthly and annual earnings for "Industry" (NACE sections C-F) and "Services" (G-K) as well as for "Industry and services" (C-K). Earnings in "Services" are highlighted if they exceed the corresponding values observed in "Industry" by at least 10%.

Figure 5 shows monthly earnings for "Industry and services". The graph results by changing the content of the menu "Earnings" in Figure 1 from "hourly" to "monthly". The ranking of countries is slightly different for hourly, monthly and annual earnings. The observed changes from gross hourly to monthly earnings are mainly due to differences in hours paid in the reference month (see Table 3) whereas the changes from monthly to annual earnings are caused by differences in payments not occurring in each pay period.

Suggestions for data exploration:

Identify the range of gross monthly earnings by putting the mouse on top of the bars.
Compare for "Industry and services" the ranking of countries as regards gross hourly and monthly earnings by changing the content of the menu "Earnings".
Compare for "Industry and services" the ranking of countries for gross monthly and annual earnings, again by changing the content of the menu "Earnings".
